The right candidate will operate and cut steel on a Python Laser.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Work with equipment and file settings to monitor quality control of items produced on the equipment. This includes, but is not limited to: cut quality and hole quality.
- Investigate machine settings and nesting techniques to increase quality, machine performance, and throughput.
- When needed assist programmers to create Python laser, and other equipment programs for production, including .DXF files for individual parts and nesting full sheets.
- The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Properly identify shapes such as sheet, plate, channel, tube, and flat bar along with their thickness and gauge. Identify material types such as mild steel and stainless steel.
- Provide backup when needed to fabricators.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
- Safety is #1, must adhere to company safety standards at all times.
- Familiar with using measurement tools such as a tape measure, square, protractor, micrometer and caliper.
- Able to follow directions, ask questions, and learn from coworkers.
- Able to manipulate, analyze and interpret CAD and SolidWorks drawings.
- Knowledge of CNC brake, punch, shear, rollers, and other equipment basic fabrication equipment.
- Knowledge of mechanical drafting practices.
- Strong math and geometry skills.
- Accurate and detail oriented, producing work in a timely manner without errors.
- Successfully work in a fast-paced environment, independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to learn quickly and a willingness to take on additional workload as needed.
- Willing to work the hours needed and committed to meeting deadlines.
- Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organization and documentation skills.

- Sit for extended periods of time.
- To have hand and arm (or equivalent) dexterity adequate to allow for extensive use of a keyboard for data entry and design functions.

- The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- To talk and hear with enough proficiency to allow for communicating by phone or in person.
- To have adequate vision to accommodate frequent viewing of computer screens and written/printed information.
- The noise level is usually moderate.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience operating CNC equipment such as a laser, punch, plasma table, brake, or band saw.
- A strong work ethic.
- Possesses qualities such as productivity, dependability, resourcefulness, efficiency, and professionalism.
- Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1-2 years Pro Nest experience.
- Experience in AutoCAD and SolidWorks or comparable software.
JOB LOCATION:
Works at the Norwood Young America facility or Waconia as assigned.
